Laboratory
In the field of photography, the various wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum are explored to obtain not only the variants in the visible region (photography of visible, shallow, transmitted light and monochromatic sodium light) but also in the invisible spectrum (reflected ultraviolet radiation photography and ultraviolet induced fluorescence photography).
The different way in which various radiations (infrared, ultraviolet, visible and X-rays) are absorbed, reflected and transmitted by the materials enable specific information to be obtained, translated into images, which contribute to a better knowledge of works of art and are relevant for material characterisation, conservation status and execution technique. It may also lead to information about possible restoration interventions to which these works of art might have been submitted.
One of the most valuable features of this laboratory is its technical expertise for the register of cultural goods. It provides support to different areas of conservation and restoration of the LJF, and to other DGPC services and external entities.
The radiographic and photographic documentation produced in this section is integrated in the Technical Conservation and Restoration Archive, in medium and large format, and in analog or digital high-definition support.
