Drink coaster, inspired by a detail from an engraving of a river view of Lisbon and its hills, engraved on a copper plate by Franz Hogenberg (1535-1590) in 1572 and published in Cologne by the printer Georg Braun (1541-1622) for Civitatis Orbis Terrarum: Urbium praecipuarum Mundi Theatrum Quintus, an ambitious publishing project, conceived as a complement to the atlas of Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598), Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, and which became the most comprehensive collection of panoramic views, plans and textual commentaries of cities published during the Modern Age.
