Namban Folding Screens Lanyard - Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga

<p>Adaptation</p>
<p>Lanyard neck strap with metal clip, inspired by a detail of a Namban folding screen (pair), attributed to Kanō Domi, dating from the late 16th century.</p>
<p>The arrival of the Portuguese in Japan in 1543 gave rise to commercial and cultural exchanges that were recorded in the two pairs of screens present in this museum: the curiosity and festive atmosphere aroused by the arrival of the black ship of the <em>namban jin</em> (the barbarians from the south, as the Portuguese were called) in the port of Nagasaki.</p>
